To Zambia With Love
In 2005, Children International began a sponsorship program in Zambia, Africa
building a community center to provide health care, educational supplies and services to needy children in the community. The programs and services help support the children to meet their basic needs, enhance their self-esteem and raise their physical and educational levels in a lasting and meaningful way. Singer Karen Jacobsen wanted to help shape the success of this new center. In August 2006, Karen and other dedicated sponsors with children in Zambia traveled to Zambia as part of "To Zambia With Love. To Zambia With Love is building a sustained presence in Zambia and raising $300,000 for a new community center in a neighboring town, Chibolya, to provide 5,000 more children with these opportunities.
During their trip in August 2006, Karen, Tom and Neil met their sponsored children, saw the work of Children International for themselves, shared an art project, a yoga class and reading with the children, and Karen performed a concert for 250 children in the center. Our thanks to Yamaha for providing a keyboard for the concert, which was donated to the Kanyama Center.
To Zambia With Love continues to raise awareness about child sponsorship, through fundraising events and an ongoing online auction.
